If you're having problems connecting to TWC with your own Motorola SB6141 cable modem, it could be becuase your modem firmware is outdated. You can check your firmware by going to The outdated firmware is 1.0.6.3. The newer firmware - which should now ship with new SB6141 purchases - is 1.0.6.8. Read this Amazon review for more details: It sounds like TWC customers with 1.0.6.8 don't have any problems.
The only way to update firmware, however, is for an ISP to push the update to your device. Apparently TWC does NOT push firmware updates to customer-owned devices. If your experience is anything like mine, the SB6141 with 1.0.6.3 firmware is as good as useless on Time Warner's network. My problems were solved as soon as I reverted to a TWC modem. Some troubleshooting with Motorola/Arris confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my SB6141. That's not the real issue. TWC has had server issues for the past 4 months and just now is getting around to repairing them.

The only acceptable modems are docsis 3's. You can run phone on a seperate docsis 2 modem The 6141's on ebay are all old junk firmware which TWC has no obligation to update. Many of their old 6121/6141 also have the old firmware however the new ones have new as well as the white 6141's on line. Problem is 95% of the people you tallk to a TWC do not have a clue as they are reading off a script. The latest is all the appollogies. Look, I don't care how sorry you are, find someone who's going to admit to and fix our problems.

I told them numerous times and even arrainged a service call to their servers a month ago and they kept insisting that there was nothing wrong at my end and that the problem is at my end. My speed here was dropping down to 3% of what I was paying for and nothing done on my end seemed to improve it. At least with the 6141, the logs and signal menu's are readable and I can make a better determination of failure & degradation issues.
I also have diagnostic software to check on any limiting, quota's and throttling. I have been having issues with my SB6141 for the last month, I even returned the one I bought on Newegg.com and bought one from Best Buy as TWC support was trying to blame the modem and for a while it seemed like it was possible since they let me borrow one of their modems and it had no trouble for us. The 2nd 6141 I bought had the same issues as the first one. In my case the modem reboots itself multiple times a night when we are using it.
The ones I bought are the White (Retail) version of the modem, but had a manufacture date of May 2013 and had a newer firmware than what Time Warner is using on their modems. One of their T3 techs noticed this on my modem and downgraded my firmware to what they use on their modems and the problem was resolved for 3-4 days. Suddenly yesterday the problem started back up, and this time I can't get past the T1-T2 tech support to resolve the problem because the previous t3 tech had apparently closed my case number without ever verifying with me that the problem was still resolved. I am guessing, though I don't know how to prove it, that the firmware that shipped with my modem has made it's way back onto my modem. It's really frustrating. They shouldn't put that this modem is compatible with their system if it isn't going to work and if they are not going to support it.
I would actually upgrade my plan if I could get this working, but as it is a the moment it's not worth it since we can't get consistent service anyway. So my Firmware Name/Boot version and Firmware Build time are newer. I think this is the problem, I need to be on the same firmware as everyone else (the one t3 tech said he did that but somehow I think they put it back.), you know, the one that seems to work and not reboot all the time.
