I received a call from a Charles Byrd of American Income at my home. I was immediately suspicious for two reasons: he called from a cell phone and started asking questions about my child. He already had too much information about my family, and was trying to lure me in by offering to register my child with a 'child safety kit'. He offered to call back if I wanted to think it over, but I told him I would contact him with my decision. I went online to research the company, and found this site with quite a few complaints about this so-called Life Insurance company.

They are a total scam! They cheated me and I lost more than $5000 working for them!

And they say that people who used to work for them are bitter. No they're not bitter, they're telling the truth. You will go bankrupt if you sign up with them! They will hire anyone and everyone! They will lie to you and pretend that your resume is the reason they called you.

But they don't even look at the resumes, they just call every single person they can. Why do they try to hire so many people? Because everytime someone accepts the job, you have to pay an additional $300 for 'admin fees' which goes into their pockets. So imagine if they hired 10 people. They'd make $3000 just like that. Keep away from them@. As a healthcare provider, back in May 2008 I was contacted by phone several times by a sales person from AIL who insisted he needed to come to talk to me about my 'benefits'.

I finally agreed, as we were shopping for life insurance at the time, and he came out and started off with a 'free' benefits package that included discounts to a couple of services. We purchased life insurance (not a very good deal but we figured better than nothing), but I also paid $24.95 extra for the 'gold' package of the free benefits package, thinking the discounts he told me I would receive would help supplement my daughters' dental bills and hotel stays etc So here it is July 2008 and while the check was cashed back in May, I still do not have a membership card. I've tried unsuccessfully all morning to get info on the 'gold' package, when I finally got through the person told me they had not received my check (although it was cashed back in May) and now I have to get a copy of the check and fax it to them to 'prove' I paid for the benefits. Since the so-called benefits are pretty much useless I am going to request my money back, even though it's only $24.95. As for the life insurance we purchased, now I'm very worried that we made a mistake.

So far we have only paid them $240 but I'm just hoping that we made the right decision on this term-life insurance. I have an interview with a company I believe is the same company, American Income Partners. Everything I have read seems to fit in with what I have heard over the phone. I am very nervous about this interview as I cannot reach anyone by phone and once again the only information I find is negative.

I am keeping the interview only because I really want out of the position I currently am working and just in case this is different I want to give it a chance. I will post again after the interview so if they have changed the name others can be aware. Very Nervous in North Dakota. I am a full time student on the verge of graduating this fall. I went to a career fair that my college was putting on and talked to a representative about a job at American Income Life this spring.

I was really impressed with the gentelman because he said that he made 50k his first year and that he made it to a state director's position in just five years. I could tell he was young so I thought this was great! Well I got a call for an interview about a week later and after my 2nd interview I was hired. They made me feel like I was priceless. They said all the right things. I was told that I would only have to come into the office two times a week for a meeting and making my appointments. I already had a part time job locally (no drive time), which I quit to work for AIL, BIG MISTAKE!!

Their office was a 92 mile round trip from my house. With the cost of gas I thought only having to go in two times a week was a good thing. After I went to Agent's school @ my cost of $260.00, that I really didn't have, for four days @ 90 miles round trip each day, to get my license, all the bologna that I had been fed started to unravel. I went to the first meeting and noticed some of the people coming to the meetings were not dressed very professionally. That made me curious. Then I learned that I would be working a six day work week and on top of that on Sundays.

I was told rarely would we work on Sundays and we set our own schedule. I was never told a six day work week. The director really misrepresented all of the benefits of working for this company. Not only would I be working more than he said I would, he told me my schedule would be flexible. It was their schedule not mine.

I also told the director in the interview in which I got hired that I was going to be in summer school and that it would be in the morning. Then in the second meeting I was told that all the training was in the morning, when I was in school. I thought to myself, 'When will I get trained?' When I e-mailed the director to ask him questions that I had about the company, I asked him if I would get paid during training and he assured me that I would. I couln't afford to drive everyday 92 miles round trip on no pay while I trained. After much thought I finally wiped away the glaze from my eyes that they had fed me and started to realize that they had lied to me about several things.

The work week, the amount of hours, the schedule, the pay, the training, and the travel. I was not fortunate enough to see this website before I endured all of this, but I am taking action right now to see that they are pulled from the career fair so that future students don't have to endure this kind of humilation. This serves as a WARNING TO ALL American Income Life is a waste of time and money. If you are still unsure Please, I beg you, do your homework. I am out over $700 in gas, time, and money. This company is not a scam persay.

They have insurance benefits which are offered to union members, credit union members, or family members of them. The tactics they use to sell are a scam. They are an awful company to work for and half the time you don't get paid for what you sell. You are told to make appts. With the union members telling them you have benefits provided by their union. When you get to the members home you are told to show them the free products ($1000 accidental death) and then show them this other policy which offers so much more.

After the person sees this, you then tell them they only get the $1000 accidental death and have to pay monthly for the rest. They are feeding on union members and I truly wish these unions would stop using them. The unions definitely are getting scammed.

Do not work for them or purchase their product. The company is real and their products are real which prevents a better business claim.

But how they go about conducting misleading appointments makes me sick. MATHMATICAL PROOF Now you could say, “Hey you just had a bad experience and are venting trying to talk bad about the company.” Well let me provide you with some figures including exactly what I made for the 27 weeks I was with the company. The numbers include, advances, overrides, and bonuses paid out. Now granted I could have added wrong or missed a paycheck but its pretty much spot on. $14, 958.35 total income / 27 weeks of employment = a whopping $554.02 per week I drove a total of 39, 935 miles for this job in the 27 weeks = 1479.07 miles per week.

AIL

I was in the field 6 days per week which = 246.51 miles per day. My car averaging 26 mpg at an average cost of $3.54 per gallon, I spent $5, 437.30 on gas alone! Now you could say well it’s a write off, well kiss my grits you only get back a percentage.

Now keep some things in mind. I was their top agent for 4 months writing the most business. As a manager I had one of the top producing teams.

And this is what I have to show for it?! The Raleigh agency is one of the best agencies in the company and the agents are starving, barely scraping. I was and I outperformed most of them having the highest quality of business ratings. I too initially was 100% in, but the proof is in the pudding.

TEST: Get your 1099 add it up, subtract your out of pocket expenses, then tell me what you really made. I worked for american income for about 5months. During the time i worked there i was constantly under pressure to produce, PRODUCE!!! Sure that's expected, but when I didn't hit weekly production one week I was called out from the front of the Monday morning weekly meeting and was told infront of everyone, that 'I was doing a half assed job and I wasn't serious about my career.'

Talk about inappropriate & unprofessional!! Do these ###s really think they can motivate me to MAKE THEM MONEY by giving them a public lashing? Through out my employment at American Income there was nothing but false expectations, shadey so called 'managers' who lied on a regular basis to cover their own butt, and dispicable behavoir. THINK AGAIN BEFORE YOU GO FOR AN INTERVIEW!!!1. Whenever I read blogs like this I often wonder 'who are these people'. In my opinion most blogs are just another avenue for individuals to vent while showcasing their ignorance.

Is there anyone in America who knows the meaning of the words 'accountability - responsibility - common sense'. Let's face it if you didn't apply for a job with AIL and you are not interested in an interview after speaking to them then. What is so hard about that! Why go on-line and slander a company that you don't really know anything about, did not take the time to research (except to dig up dirt), have no interest in working with, don't believe in.etc.

If it's not for you. Go and get a job you want.

Isn't it a little hypocritical and ungrateful to put down a company that called to offer you employment while you were unemployed? There are numerous larger corporations out there that are guilty of far worse than you are accusing AIL of.

So what if they use sales tactics to gain access to clients - who doesn't. Would spending money on nationally advertised commercials to inform the public of their programs make you feel better, safer, make them more credible. Please! Stop acting like spoiled children who can't have all their cake at once.

AIL isn't a bad company, they are not perfect but what company or individual is? They offer a valid service and just like any other reputable company. You may not have a need for the products AIL offers, and it's wonderful for you and your family that everything is in order and all is taken care of.

But many other families don't have their life in such perfect order and those families are grateful that the representative came by and did a presentation. It seems to me everyone hates to pay insurance and some people really take unhealthy pleasure in being a part of anything negative - these are the people who made Jerry Springer rich. But I've never heard of anyone returning a check to an insurance company after they were paid out!

I'm almost certain someone out there will pick this commentaryover with a fine tooth comb and critique the content - or at the very least look for grammatical and spelling errors. To those persons I say. In South Florida, the company is misrepresenting themselves. They are coming to public events to get names of people who want a Child Saftey Kit to protect their children.

They were not supposed to be soliciting at the event. Also, they say they are working with the police department. Thing is, the local police department knows nothing about it. They make appointments to come to your house and do not tell you that they are an insurance company. They do not give names or numbers to call them back. When they show up, they do not have business cards and do not give their real names.

Very Scary!!! Then when I looked into it, the person in charge kept blaming it on others and not believing what I said happened. He said that the agent he sent out would not do those things.

I would not trust this company!!! First off I will say that I am a new agent working with AIL. I cannot verify what people say about other offices, or how they conduct their business.

From what I can tell it could be very easy for each office to have totally different atmosphere's. I have been with AIL for only 6 weeks now and here is my experience. First was the interview process, I will say that I actually contacted them in regards to an ad on craig's list. I was contacted back the following Monday and asked to come in for an interview.

After I had the first two interview's I had the same thing in mind as many other people on here, 'this has to be too good to be true'! I immediately searched them on the internet and found many sites like this one which made me very skeptical. I told the manager in my final interview that i would not accept the position until I had a chance to research it further, to include riding with one of the employees on a shift.

American Income Partners Gold Program

I will not bore you with all the details but I figured after my research that it was worth a chance. Now one of the biggest complaints that I see on the internet when people call this a scam is that they require fee's up front. Well this is the biggest of the BullSh.t complaints I want to address. The company did tell me that I was going to have to put about $500 down up front.

I fully expected this. Being a former Real Estate Agent we go through the same process. The fee's don't go to AIL but to the state and to the school for the education. If you all think these fee's are bad try being a Realtor®. I dropped about two grand for that license.

Of course you are going to have to pay fee's up front, real estate companies do not pay for Realtor® license's, ambulance services do not pay for EMT and Paramedic licenses, Hospitals dont pay for nurses and doctor's licenses, why would an insurance company pay for your license? You pay to do the school, pay the fees to take the STATE insurance exam, and pay the state fee's to get the license. If later you decide you want to go to another insurance company you are already licensed. The other big thing that people complain about are the hours and pay. Yes they say that you can write your schedule and yes you can make alot of money. But this is a SALES job.

You dont get paid salary or hourly but commission. This means you have work for it. So for all those that think you can come to this job, work 10 hours a week, and make thousands of dollars, you are wrong. In this line of work you get paid for the extent of your work.

This can be a good thing. Have you ever had a hourly job and you worked your butt off and the guy next to you did not do a thing and you made the same amount.

That does not happen here. If you want to make money you are going to have to work for it. There are good times and bad but I can tell you that I have seen different people here make between 20/hr and 400/hr.

It all depends on how well you can sell, and how hard you work. In regards to the hours you work, while you are in training, yes you work 6 days a week. However once you are out of training you can work less, however don't expect to make the money that you are promised. I start in the field on my own this coming week. However last week in training I made $1750 in one week, only out selling for four days. Overall, yes it is questionable, but this is a job that you get what you put into it. If you are motivated, willing to work, and flexable, once you get throught the training you should be able to make good money.

They just came to my house. I have an intercom and he told me he had the kits with him. I signed up for the kits 2 years ago at an expo. Asked why it took so long. Claimed he was the new rep for the area and had just gotten my name.

When I went and opened the door he did not have the kits. He kept pushing and saying he needed to order the kits and come back. I told him flat out that it did not sound right and I was uncomfortable with what he was saying. Told him I was not interested in buying anything or spending any money. He said he could not drop off or mail the kits unless I let him come back and 'show me how to set them up.'

BEWARE SCAM I also got the vague Police Association BS. I work for AIL. I assure you this is not a scam. IT'S BUSINESS, GET OVER IT!!!

This is how ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES WORK. Believe me, I have worked for many, and AIL is by far the best that I have worked for. The only way that we would ever call you regarding a kit is if YOU requested one, or if one of your FRIENDS referred us to you. If you can't handle someone giving you something for free that is going to protect your children, then trying to sell you insurance afterwords, well then I'm sorry but that's your problem not ours.

Stop being so sensitive and get over it. Just because someone is trying to sell you a great product does not mean its a scam. And as far as the free 2000 dollar accidental plan that we offer. Yes, the union members are already covered and, yes, this is a 'get your foot in the door' technique. However this does not change the fact that THE UNIONS HAVE AGREED TO LET US DO THIS. So once again people, get over yourselves, IT'S JUST BUSINESS. For those in Arizona, beware.

American income life insurance is operated by Steve Hartman. I have never met the man. I was just interviewed yesterday (5/14/2010) for a 'management' position. It was the initial interview. My interviewer's name was Maria Esposito and she had a business card claiming that she was a Master General agent. On the website for American income life, many things spoke here are confirmed.

This is a grinding company. They continually hire and freely admit that. I did not take a position with this company and neither should you. You will most likely be used until you are no longer needed. They benefit from the sweat of the young greed driven schlubs that walk in there door who come for the promise of big numbers. If you check out the company website you will also find that they are an arm of the Democrat party. Steve Hartman and many other CEO's for this company are huge contributors to every democrat socialist and progressive idea that has come up in the last 6 years (at least).

Clearly the unions are fine with having its members targeted by these slime. New members are served up like fresh meat to wolves.

They are presented some type of card offering a free benefit with a call number to activate. Then, once the poor new union member calls the number. He/she becomes a lead to a American income life agent. The free kit is a gimick plain and simple.

The operate on sales. So you can bet your bottom dollar they will come hard at the unionite until they buy. There is something very wrong with this organization. Trust your best instincts. Hopefully, they will be thoroughly examined by a watchdog agency. However, I doubt it. These people (at the top) are well connected.

They use there ill-gotten gains to buy political clout and access to more and more union workers. I will admit I am NOT a union supporter. However, if I were in charge of these unions and I really had the best interest of the 'working families' at heart I know that I would have the moral fiber to end any business relationship with these goons. American income life is a type of multi-level marketing. If you hire there you are not going to reap any rewards.

That is for those above you. I am one of the fools that fell for their recruiting lines. I busted butt, doing everything I was told to do, taking my course, getting my license, and sitting while listening to thier BS training class. I am one of the lucky ones. Something happened to my manager and I never made it out into the field. From what I have heard, I missed out on spending days driving around the ghetto, going into crack houses and other delapidated buildings, being sent to countless homes in which the prospects were too old for even the Senior 10 ripoff.

YEs, but you can sell them a cancer policy and get the names of their children and grown grandchildren. Why are the managers who are making this killer money driving around in beat up old cars or the cheapest newer ones they could find? Your agency owner will fill you with lines about how your weekly check is really just a part of what you have earned. Look at this 10 year projection for your earnings on this one week alone. Please explain to me home my year income of $1200 for one weeks work will make up for the fact that this week my check was for $600, and that doesn't even start to cover my bills for the week?

At first I was enthusiastic about this career, remember, it is not a job, it is a career. Then I started to notice the reality. At the mandatory meetings, there are a few key managers and a bunch of employees that haven't yet put in two months with the company. People aren't driving the cars of success (claim, this is our work vehicle, the Mercedes is at home.) They live in cheap apartments. I was very uncomfortable with the lies you are trained to tell just to get your foot into the door of peoples homes. We are here about your free benefits, your child safety kit- seriously, people make sure you always have a current photo of your children and can give a general description of them-this will do the same job.Lie about being there to sell, you are there to explain THEIR BENEFITS, the Benefits THIER UNION wants them to have.

Also lie about being on commission. 'I don't care if you buy or not, I'm still getting paid.'

No you're not, you're on 100% commission, if you don't sell, you don't get paid. I won't comment on the product being sold, it still sounds reasonable and I have been told that they do pay quickly. Of course, this is coming from a company that lies to you from the first recruiting telephone call and doesn't stop.

Retention is a ratio of how much submitted business pays through the 4th month. It is a rolling evaluation period that is determined by going back 6 months from current month, and the submit months being evaluated are the 6 months prior to that month. For example, April 2002 AP&P reports reflect an evaluation period of May 2001 to October 2001. Any application submitted during those months is being evaluated to determine if premiums were paid through the 4th month.

If so, there is a positive impact to retention. If not, there will be a negative impact. Policies can be reinstated to improve retention, however, the positive impact is to the original writing agent even if recoded at time of reinstatement.
